posting to fb and twitter

There's a way to get around this. It's sad, though, that you have to seek it out:

how does one disable this option?

In the header, click Account.
In the My Account Settings window, click the Extensions tab.
Do NOT select the following:
- Publish my comments to FaceBook by default.
- Publish my comments to Twitter by default.
Click Save.

after doing this those boxes will still appear, but they cannot be checked.
