2 a.m.

Few things can keep me up until 2 a.m. anymore. Pennsic? Sure. Grace? Only when she is sick. Knitting? Rarely.

But last night was one of those nights. Overwhelmed with the success of spinning that yarn, which you can get similar colorways from Copperpot Woolies on Etsy, I ran upstairs and knitted a swatch. It worked great on 8mm needles, which I happened to have in a circular for a hat.

Since I only had 55 yards, what could I do with it? I found in my drawer two balls of white romney wool that was the "first time spin" on my wheel. One ball was over spun, one underspun; if you want to believe I planned that on purpose, go right ahead - it makes me look more like a genious instead of a hack.

So I cast on the colored corriedale, knitted a couple rounds, then holding the two white romney yarns together, knit a couple rows of romney.

So it began. That was midnight, by the way.

At 2 a.m., this is what I cast off:

By the way, it is exceedingly difficult to take a picture of yourself wearing a hat.

My two hour hat. I am excluding the several hours spent spinning the two balls of romney and the ball of corriedale.

The pattern was made up on the fly. A 1x1 rib stitch brim and the rest is stockinette. The striping was intentional to use as much of the corriedale without running out as possible. I didnt care if I had left over romney or not. It is a litte big; I knew my swatch was just an estimate. The yarn changes gauge throughout, as hard as I tried to keep it even, and when I knit the swatch, I didnt include the romney because I only came up with that idea once I was two rounds into the hat.

I was so pleased with it, I slept in it. It is warm as the sun.

I dont know what else to say besides...cool.
