Auntie Jean

My Auntie Jean toddled off into the Summerlands last night.  She had been rushed to hospital yesterday with a Bad chest infection and the remains of  the vomiting bug.

She was 84 and had been a very close family friend for many years.   She was loved by all the kids in the area as she had been a dinner lady at the local school, and would mother us all to bits.   When I was younger she was our official Baby Sitter if mum and dad were going out and would spoil us rotten - She even put up with me at the age of 14 making her sit through The Rocky Horror Picture show when it was screened on New Year's Eve. ( I got some very strange looks after that for a while from her)

She has been with us every Christmas and New Year Since I was about 10 (She was part of my papa's "Hareem" which was my Nana, Auntie Betty and the Jeanie), so that's nearly 25 years, she was there whenever we needed her, she was there for me when I was ill -just another ear when I needed it.  She worked in the local Age Concern shop, sang in the church chior, was in the Guild, was in so many things right up until a few weeks ago.

I loved her as if she was a real Auntie as I don't have any that are still alive, she never married but got engaged during the war, only for her fiance to be killed in action. She would have been an amazing Mammy, but instead she became a mammy/auntie to so many kids in the area, and even though we are all in our 20s and 30's we still called her Auntie Jean or The Jeanie

May the Angels guide you safely home, love you loads and will miss you, and I will see you again.

P.s  I give them about another 10 minutes and then I reckon the "Hareem" will be chucked back out through the gates for causing too much chaos!
