I was able to wear my new blazer to the job interview on Friday. Even though everyone told me Fri was casual at the office and I only needed a pair of dockers and an oxford, I brought it along. Good thing, too, because as I pulled into the parking lot I saw that my recommender was wearing a sports coat. So, I stuffed a tie in my pocket, slipped on the coat and went in, where I saw that everyone else in the whole damn place was wearing jeans, just like they told me.
Who cares, because maybe it was the coat or maybe it was the new shoes, but I got offered not one, but two jobs. They were competing for me! It came down to starting out in a 5,500+ person company with a salaried position and a comprehensive benefits package, or working as a contractor and being able to bill for any overtime and writing just about everything off of my taxes.
So how did I decide? Well, I said thank you, but I'm not interested; I'm taking myself to the other side of the world and casting my lot in the warm desert winds of the middle east.
I wonder if there will be any good bakeries in Palestine, a place I could find a nice danish before work.
