Hewing a log

From the log house class:

Dave uses an adze to hew a log as rafe works the opposite end with an axe. A hewn log is rectangular in shape when finished, thereby reducing weight and providing flat walls (an aesthetic preference.) The hewn logs would be used to make a log house; a log cabin is made from round, unhewn logs.
