The Chronicles of the Lost Warrior

Once upon a time, long long ago. There was a warrior. His name was Cecil. He lived in a little house in the outskirts of the castle with his wife, Rosa, and their children. A mostly peaceful life, the wars had stopped long, long ago, and he had forgotten how hard life was when there was conflict.

One day without warning, a man came. He entered the house and tried to take Rosa away, but Cecil stepped in and killed him with his sword. They didn't know why he came, and why he tried to take her away, but Cecil was relieved, but Rosa was not.

Rosa was terrified of Cecil and wouldn't get near him. He would ask her over and over what was wrong but she would be silent in answer.

Rosa tried fleeing the house, but Cecil stopped her and told her to stay inside. Sure enough, his hunch was right. Another man came by, and tried to take her away, but Cecil fought him.

He was relieved that Rosa was safe, but at the same time distraught that another man came, for no reason, and tried to take away, while Rosa stayed huddled in a corner weeping and terrified before and even after the man was slain.

Cecil tried to think, but the day grew dim. He told her to stay inside and lock the house. He stayed outside, on guard, catnapping, to make sure nobody tried to come close.

Day after day, the men kept coming, each time increasing in number. Cecil grew tired, and it seemed like a whole platoon surrounded him and his little house.

He was bloody, beaten, and tired. They all stood and watched him as he bled and breathed heavily. He screamed out , "What do you want from me!?", but to no avail. They all just stared at him with their weapons unsheathed.

Cecil slowly turned around, and Rosa stood there at the doorway crying. "Don't you see, it's you they want?".

Cecil was shocked. Rosa pulled out a mirror and showed him what he truly was. A knight in full black armor covered in blood.

"You killed my husband, and killed each and every person that tried to rescue me!"

A pain struck in the back of his head, and memories flooded in, but there was one image that kept staying at the front. The image of the first man that came. The man that kept crying out Rosa's name as he tried to reach out and take her.

He couldn't believe it. "I'm the good guy, aren't I?" He said. The silence was only pierced by Rosa as she wept and crumpled to the floor. "I go out and kill all the bad guys, but yet, I'm the one who has to die in the end?"
