I know I have
another list of recs for these guys, but blah. Putting everything neatly in one place so it's easy to find is overrated, yes? Click the "Lupin/Snape" tag below if you want more of these guys, though - there'll be plenty more. Also: no porn here. Porn will be another list.
So, without further ado, arguably in order of longest to shortest:
Wolf at the Door by
PlaidPooka (author's website is archived
here) - 59k, R, Rom, "Remus Lupin's solitary habits cause him no end of trouble when his change does not take place as expected. Who will be able to help him and how shall he ever get to the help he so desperately needs?"
- Not nearly so dramatic as the summary implies, but in a good way. A delightful tale of wolves and a very thoroughly understandable Snape.
Wedding Bell Blues by
Ellid - 48k, PG, Com, "A best man has many duties. Including preventing the groom from making the mistake of his life."
- Fabulously humorous, with several very delightful quotes that I shan't spoil for you. Enough angst in it for the sake of realism and drama, but not too much. Well-rounded and enjoyable.
Ulterior Designing by
busaikko - 44k, PG13, Com, "Humor fic involving a wok, talking cats, and house elves with gambling problems. Remus hires Hermione, who is working as an interior decorator by day, and unbeknownst to him, cupid by night. Someone must constantly say 'ergo'."
- It's far better - more pleasant, believable, and delightfully humorous - than the summary up there makes it sound. A charming read.
Of Sophists and their Asses by
Senjy - 40k, PG13, Com, based on req: "An old relative of Remus' dies. The man was a Potion master or something similar, and Remus inherits a chest or something else involving potions or potions' recipes or ingredients. Remus has to go and fetch it in another country, and asks for Severus to go with him, as an expert."
- A very, very amusing fic. It makes me want to read The Frogs desperately, even though I probably won't be able to manage it.
Methods of Suicide by
Jedi Rita - 38k, PG, Angst, "Following the final war, a magically disabled Snape has little reason left to live. Now the holiday season and everyone getting on with their lives only makes it worse. Lupin is the only one who notices."
- Full of crisp, impressively well-done but not nearly nauseating angst. It only just has a hopeful ending, but it does. Not nearly so maudlin as the title might seem to suggest - this is a brilliant piece.
Secret Keeper by
Carfiniel - 24k, R, Rom, "Severus' solitude is interrupted by his secret keeper, and they are both forced to confront secrets they are keeping from each other."
- The dialogue is halting, dances around the subject at hand, nervous, and is somehow utterly gorgeous in the most vulnerable of ways.
Missing, Believed Dead by tetsubinatu - Short, PG, Rom, "After killing/apparently killing Dumbledore, Snape flees Britain. Dumbledore’s picture reveals the truth. Remus searches for Severus, but how can he find a spy?"
- Not the best of its genre, and certainly not the longest, but lovely in its own right. It's probably ~3-5k words.
Captivity by Eulalie Moire - Short, PG, Rom, "Snape and Lupin are together. Snape is convinced that Lupin would leave him if he had other options."
- Not the typical take on this sort of story by any means. Definitely unique, in a good way.
tl;dr: To ease the casual reader's browsing along, I sort them as follows: comedy (Com), hopeful angst/tragedy (Angst), or generic thoughtful romance (Rom). Mostly, just to warn you about angst quantity - I'm not much for hopeless endings, but the ending can be bittersweet and I'll still rec it. Comedy is anything that makes me belly laugh, which is a lot - I'm easily amused, but prefer well-written and mildly intellectual stories, if you're wondering what you'll find here. Romance is anything in between or off to the side - most of it is quiet and thoughtful. I'll go for fluff, but sap tends to creep me out.
