He was starting to enjoy himself, speaking to these people, when his cell phone rang. He answered it. "Hi?"
"Larry," Mona came on the line. "Do you think you'll be back soon?"
"Yes."
"Okay, uh...it's Sam. He's in his room, I think he had a nightmare, he won't let me in. He's..crying. I don't know what to do for him."
"Ahh, okay. I'm on my way." He hung up and made a quick exit and went home. As soon as he walked in the door, he found Mona pacing before Sam's door. She looked very relieved to see him. "I've got it." He pulled some bills from his pocket and handed them to her. "Night, Mona." As she left he turned to the bedroom door, he could hear Sam crying inside. He tried the knob, it was locked. "Come on Sam, let me in." No response came. He leaned against the door. "Sammy. Let me in." Again, no response. He sighed at sat down against the door. "Fine, I'm here. Don't let me in...but I'm here." He closed his eyes and leaned his head back. Is this what came from living his own life the past month? Maybe everything that had happened that weekend was a blessing. He had been wrong in thinking he should be out with people. No, he needed to be home with his son. His son needed him. He'd be where he was needed. And wanted. No where else.
He sat a moment longer, then got to his feet. He went over to the piano and sat down. After a deep breath, he began the song he used to play for Sam when they were apart. It still brought his son comfort at times, Larry could only hope it still would.
