While I am organizing things: this year I want to go to some of the Winterlicious events, and was wondering if there were others who might want to go as a group. I have not decided where to go, as I was hoping owlfish might have some suggestions for the can't-miss places to eat (preferably ones where it is not necessary to buy lots of extras to go with ( Read more... )

Book as soon as you can. The most in-demand/hardest-to-eat-at-cheaply will already be booked up. But there will still be plenty of places left. I'll go through the list without looking at the menus as it'll take too long otherwise.

Personal endorsements: Mildred Pierce, Pangaea, (Southern Accents - fab bread, but doesn't feel "special")

Good impression from other sources (i.e. places I want to try!): Auberge du Pommier, Boulevard Café, Canoe, Five Doors North, Thuet Bistro, Truffles, Tundra, Ultra

Wouldn't bother with: Matignon (one indifferent dinner), Cajú (decent, not too special), The Old Mill Inn (rather dull afternoon tea)

There are a bunch of others that I personally wouldn't bother with but for reasons which wouldn't necessarily reflect what a current dinner there would be like. (I had a lackluster afternoon tea experience at the Courtyard Café at the Windsor Arms, unimpressed by ambiance at EPIC*, dull sample from Xacutti at a food festival etc.)

* Although another friend went there this week for Winterlicious and was bowled over.
