They're on a trip for their 25th wedding anniversary. I got to hug both of them yesterday, and then again today... how often does that happen when one is an American studying in Britain? Not very often! The American mother's day was a few weeks ago and I wished so badly that I could just give my mom a hug, and now I have! They really haven't changed much, as parents tend to, except that my mom got her hair cut short enough that it could now be considered a bob. I have missed them quite a bit, and it really does seem that for me, home can be many places, whether it's Trinity or York, but wherever my parents are is "really home". There's just no replacing them.
It's funny, I was thinking about how it seems like my american friends and I seem to talk about our families quite a bit to make up for our distance from them. I don't know how much this applies to Archana, since she's thousands of miles away from her parents most of the year, but I know quite a bit about the parents and siblings of my friends at York, and I'm sure they know about mine. I could probably tell you the occupations, personality traits, and a few idiosyncracies for each of my friends' parents. What does that mean, anyway? I'm glad to hear as much about their parents as they are willing to tell me -- it's intriguing to get some background on where they came from, and to an extent, how they were raised. It gives me an appreciation for the diversity of life, because, after all, I only have one family, one frame of reference to draw from.
I have a new icon too.. Merry made it for me.. I do like carrot sticks, and now everyone knows!
On a somewhat related note, I saw Episode III with my parents tonight! They'd actually been waiting so they could watch it with me. ^^ I won't say too much, but it was very predictable - but then again, the writers had a lot of plot constraints to work with anyway. Definitely worth seeing, though. I like Ewan McGregor. And Jedi cloaks... Especially the big black drapey ones... <3
