I've been feeling livejournally lately, whereas my usual state is 'too cool to post'. Last night I wasted valuable sleep time going back and reading my oldest entries. It was really strange, some of them I could hardly believe that was me writing! And that's just 6 years ago. I've changed so much. Well, I still love tatu as much as I did back then. I finally recieved my album that took a month and a half to ship from Russia and have been listening to it nonstop the past few days. Best album they've done yet!
Also over the past week I have been attending deer hunt check stations to collect ticks off the deer for work. In Acton they handed me a trash bag full of bloody deer heads. In that situation, you have two choices: faint or don't look it in the face. I managed to survive without blacking out.

'meme' thing:
1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
Started working in a lab. Fired a handgun. Camped out on an island for 4 months - went 3 weeks without showering. Was island manager on the tern project.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Didn’t have one, won’t make one.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
My dog Brecca.

5. What countries did you visit?
None! >.<

6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
A Wii.

7. What date from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Late July on Penikese island, the day before we left. We were in the middle of packing up camp when we were hit with the scariest, most severe storm of the season. Lightning right on top of us and 60mph gusts. I thought I was going to die. o.o

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Managing the Penikese island tern colony and getting everything done right.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Not making enough effort to contact professors for graduate school.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I burned out my corneas by looking at a UV light at work. The most intense pain I have ever felt in my life lasted an entire day, then my eyes didn’t work properly for a month. Everything is ok now.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
My brand new 2009 Honda Fit.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Honda Fit. :>

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Tie between new car and new puppy.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? About the same…maybe a little happier because I have a steady job.
ii. thinner or fatter? Same, or maybe a teeny bit thinner.
iii. richer or poorer? Poorer!

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Reading scientific literature

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
TV watching

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Probably Christmas eve with my family and Winslow, then Christmas day at Winslow’s house.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
America’s Next Top Model

26. What was the best book you read?
1984

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I went out to Ram Island to do pre-season cleanup - slaving away raking debris off the island so the terns have space to nest. Winslow came, then we went to his house after. He gave me a balsa wood rose, a pocket knife, some Danish liquor, and drew a picture of a tern for me! 27

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
A professor at a graduate school showing interest in me.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
I was more conscious about wearing more stylish, trendy clothes, less t-shirts. Also I bought more expensive, nice, high quality clothes rather than cheap stuff that wears out and I end up hating.

34. What kept you sane?
Winslow

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Prop 8. Grr.

37. Who did you miss?
Viktor, Gabby, Chaya…I’m always missing lots of people.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Wendy, my assistant on Penikese, and Liz, a staff member at the Penikese Island School

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008:
Don’t look at UV lights.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
I can’t do that. It was good, getting my job at Tufts made me feel more like an adult and has also stimulated my mind and interest in science. That’s probably the biggest change.
