i've said it before, and i'll say it again; the way you write it all, I CAN FEEL it. it's easy to pack everything up with description to the point where it's a chore to read, but this- ugh, you've written in a way that it's all so tangible, so what if i'm greedy?
and, seriously? snafu and babe bromance? you made it work so hard while keeping it beautifully IC and i could read these guys forever (you know, aside from snafu and gene roe. YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I LOVE THOSE TWO)
amazing set up, really sets the tone for the rest of the fic.

oh, this part. babe and julian. this entire section was like a suckerpunch. i'm really, really bad with explaining things - but, ugh, again: the feeling and emotions and JULIAN. and how you've made it even more heartbreaking by detailing their history (and making the definition between julian and every other john in the world ( ... )

I am doing the whole how Babe and Spina got there fic, but I'll let you in on the secret. Mardi Gras, Babe gets split from Spina (who is there on interning interviews) and Julian, drunkley face-plants on New Orelans road, gets stitched up by one Dr. Eugene Roe, who is in NO as a volunteer. It's a semi-Grey's Anatomy moment but with less indie music and more slash.
I love Snafu and I love Snafu with layers. Yes, he is a creeper dude, but why? And how? And what for? And I'm glad they are still IC even in the modern age and having them, like, meet.
Finally, family, and friends as family; that's an important theme to me. They are what get you through it, you know? Since the Marine Corps is all about Brother Marines and Easy Company is, well, EASY COMPANY, I really, REALLY wanted that theme to carry over into the fic verse as a whole. There is a reason why Bruce Springsteen's "Blood Brothers" is my unofficial Band of Brothers theme song is all I'm saying.

I love how real this feels and Babe's and Snafu's weird friendship and Gene and Snafu's BFFness and Eddie just being there. It was all heartbreaking and good at the same time and I'm going to go read it again because it's made me so happy!

Family, brotherhood, bromance, all great themes of this whole 'verse. And it def. brings the warm and fuzzies b/c we all need that in the world.
True story: Eddie arrived as a wandering folk-country musician, roadtripping through the South after leaving the Marines. He is also a Mr. Fix-It.

I'd never have thought of putting Babe and Snafu together as friends, but it's a stroke of genius; Babe's quiet, down-to-earth toughness makes him a good foil to Snafu. And I just love Snafu and Gene being all gratuitously Cajun around each other, and winding up folks who don't understand.
The dialogue feels really natural, and the level of detail you've got going on here is great. Can't wait to see what's coming next!

Each area of the 'verse has its own tone. The Louisiana bunch are much more laid back, more family-deep roots-connections etc focused than say Speirs crew in The Research Triangle and the whole gaggle of Federal/Government/Military folks in DC/VA etc. I really hope that gets conveyed through the fic.
I think Snafu and Babe are a good balance. You wouldn't expect them to be friends, but Snafu likes to push and Babe will push back.
And part of the joy of out-of-town guests is using your local slang to confuse them. ;) My reaction from when I first moved to Boston and people talked about putting jimmies on their ice cream is still a hit at my former work place.

They made my afternoon.
Also your level of background especially with Snafu and weaving it with Gene's, I adore. Hi I want to subscribe to your newsletter.

I'm sort of sad there is not more Spina is the fic, b/c I love Spina and am sad over his lack of fic and like, everything in fandom. Alas, this was really more about Babe, Snafu and their bromance. Luckily, ton of Spina in, you know, all the other fics.
