My weekend:
Friday. I was starving when I got out of work. Brian wanted to go to Friendly's. He has this obsession with that place. It was crowded, so we had to wait. But we finally ate and then went back to his house. I don't remember doing much of anything that night. Went to bed.
Saturday. Slept in a bit then went out and grabbed bagels for breakfast. Came home and cleaned Brian's room for the open house the next day. Left and went to the Palisades mall. Raided the going out of business Suncoast AGAIN for like the 3rd time. We must have seriously spent like $500 in DVDs from that place. But we bought a LOT for that price. Grabbed hot dogs from Nathans and then went to see The Da Vinci Code.
I hate to be one of those people who reads the book and then complains about that movie, because I'm not really one of those people. I understand that things must change when changing the book into a movie. However, if many things are changed, it's going to annoy me.
Hence my problem with The Da Vinci Code movie.
I think people who haven't read the book will like the movie more than people who did. Brian's mom loved the movie. She didn't read the book. I read the book and Brian read more than half of it (he's still listening to the book on tape) and we both came away disappointed. And I had such high hopes for this movie.
The movie wasn't horrible by any means. Chunks were true to the book. The acting was great. The direction was fabulous, except for the very ending which I didn't care for. A lot of the critics said that the movie tries not to be contraverisal, and they were right. And this didn't annoy me just about the contraversy part, but because they messed up the character of Robert Langdon. Instead of agreeing with the other Grail historian guy, he's playing devil's advocate, which he did not do in the book at all. Not cool. Also, the involvement of the church was different in the movie and I didn't care for that either. But the thing that annoyed me the most was the ending. Not the very ending, but the ending with Sophie. And there was no reason they had to change it. And it was stupid, and it really pissed me off and ruined the movie for me. There was plenty of other little changes that I was able to overlook. But that...that was just wrong and unneccesary.
Would I still recommend the movie? For those that haven't read the book, go see the movie first, then read the book. Definitely read the book at some point because it is a really good book. For those who have read the book, it's up to you. I don't regret seeing the movie. But they made some changes that just didn't make sense to me.
My rating: 6 out of 10.
Saturday continued. After the movie we met Dianne and Mike, as well as their friends Liz and John in front of Outback for Dianne's birthday. (Which was actually Friday.) We had to wait awhile for our table, but we sat and had a nice dinner. I only had one drink and then drank some water. After that we went to Dave and Buster's. I went to the trivia but I got stuck in the last seat on the end and couldn't see the screen very well, so I did badly. I got frustrated and went to go play some Tic-Tac-Toe, which I had amazing luck on because the balls would go right into Tic-Tac-Toe without me even having to repop them. Brian bought me a double Rum and Coke at this point, so I started drinking that. I don't really remember the order I played the games in, but I played basketball and skee ball. And this really hard rowing game. And a driving game, which I won because I play those all the time. I also played this shooting game where you hold a fake gun that like a real rifle and shoot at targets. I was really good at that game. I got a score of 220. I beat Brian. Then I went and drank another drink. And it was just a Schmirnoff Silver, but apparently that put me over the edge because I was pretty darn drunk at that point. Dianne had another drink too, so we made a pair. I played another game of trivia at some point and did okay considering. Then Dianne, Liz and I walked around and played some random games like this horse race game where you roll balls to make the horse move (I won once.) and this game where you shoot the water in the hole to make the car go up. We also had our portrait drawn by one of those machines. It actually came out pretty good! I had another drink at that point, so forget it. We hung out, played some more games and left when they closed at 2 A.M. I went home and went to bed!
Sunday. I woke up late. We cleaned up the room and left while they were having the open house. We went to lunch at Friendly's again. On the way there we spotted an open house in a nearby condo complex. So we stopped there on the way back. The place was cute, but it was a bit out of our price range. Then we went to the comic book store so Brian could pick up his stuff. By that time we went back to his house. I took a shower and did nothing for the rest of the afternoon but watch TV and nap on and off. Brian made dinner for me, (how sweet) and then I went home around 11. Finally. I hadn't slept home in like over a week.
This week I have a short work week because my sister graduates on Friday and we're going up Thursday for that. So yay, no work!
