It's me again. Time to talk about Yankees baseball. For Harry Potter see my previous entry.
Last night... Was so sweet. Admitedly, I stopped watching in the bottom of the 1st, when we were down 4-0.
But we battled back. Soon it was 5-3. There was hope.
We tied it. 5-5.
Boston scored again. 6-5.
We matched them. 6-6.
Then, it was the top of the 9th.
Now, some of you may not know the name Curt Schilling. You're better off. He's a Sox pitcher who can't keep his big mouth shut is always saying crap about the other team. Hence the nickname he has been given by the Yankee fans: "mouth". He's really a starter. Long story short he has some ankle trouble, and he's now their closer.
For non-baseball fans, the closer is the pitcher who gets the last 3 outs in a close game.
So anyway, top of the 9th inning. Here comes their "closer" Schilling. First batter is Gary Sheffield, who hits a HUGE double.
Good start, right? It gets better.
Next batter is Arod - Alex Rodriguez. Now, before that there have been countless people blabbing that Arod can't get a hit in a big game, and he'll never hit a homerun in the 9th to win a game against the Sox. In fact, there were people on the Yankee message boards saying such things before the 9th inning of yesterday's game.
And if you guess that Arod hit a homerun to win the game against the Sox last night, you're right.
FIRST PITCH over the center field wall - 2 run shot against The Mouth. Let me assure you, it does not get any sweeter than that!
Oh wait. Yes it can!
So we're up 8-6. Bottom of the 9th inning we bring in a real future hall of fame closer, Mariano Rivera. It's the top of the Sox order including Johnny Damon, currently second in batting average, and David Ortiz, notorious for getting big hits against the Yankees.
Damon's up. Mo strikes his ass out swinging.
Next up, their short stop Rentaria. Guess what? Mo strikes his ass out.
And then there's Ortiz. And will you guess what happened? Yeah. Mo STRUCK HIS ASS OUT TOO. Struck out the SIDE of the top of the Sox order INCLUDING Ortiz? Oh man, that is what dreams are made of.
