This'll be the last entry for Austria, but it's actually the place we saw the most: the Kitzsteinhorn glacier
The most obvious thing the Kitzsteinhorn has to offer is really good snow, particularly as we were there when a lot of new snow was falling: great fun if you like off-piste
and cuts down the number of people, as the 'only ski n groomed pistes when it's sunny' types are back at their hotels. Win :-)
Additionally it has a novel little museum housed in a tunnel through the underlying rock (at 3000m), with crystals
info on earth science topics, like the tectonic plate movements that formed the Alps
and the wonderfully steampunk exhibit on listening to the sounds made by the moving rock beneath the ice
No doubt the actual detection and playback instruments are considerably more sophisticated - but it looks great as an exhibit!
