No Matter What

I held on to her for dear life. I whispered softly “I love you,” but as she moved away I felt so alone. I felt like I had just lost her forever. She gives me a small smile before she disappears with my mother, back to Southport, away from me, from my arms and my lips. It took all my strength to not run out that door, run after that car, drag that blonde beauty out and declare for the whole street to see and hear that I, Sophie Webster was in love with Sian Powers. But I couldn’t, I just stood there staring at that door, letting her leave.

-

That night was the hardest with Sian being in Southport, my mother reassuring me no one believed Claire and my father giving me looks, the only person I could count on was Rosie.

She sat on my bed slipping through a gossip mag, talking about one celebrity’s breakup and another who was in rehab. I sat there, cross legged on my bed listening and laughing occasionally. But my mind was still on Sian all the way in Southport. Pulling my phone up to eye level it still read ‘No New Messages’. Not thinking I slammed it down on my bed.

“Woo, sis, what’s with you?” she asked eyeing me up.

Shrugging my shoulders I said “Nothing, I guess I’m just tired.” Leaning back I rested me head on my pillow. Hoping Rosie would take the hint to leave… no such luck.

With a raised eyebrow she asked “It’s what Claire said right?”

I gave her a pointed look then turned over on my side away from her. “Soph, you know if what she said were true…” I quickly glared at her before turning back over. “If it’s true I would be fine with it, seriously I have a friend who’s gay.”

“Really?” I asked curious.

“Yeah, she’s a good friend, we went to school together. So see, I’m cool with it.”

Taking a deep breath I turned back over and sat up. Rosie watched me closely, getting ready for my confession or insult. “Rosie… I… I love her,” I whispered.

Rosie’s eyes grew huge with excitement at the confession. “I knew it! Ever since you two had that fight, I just knew something was up.”

“So… do you still love me then?” I asked looking down at my hands.

Rosie reached out and grabbed my hands in hers, making me look up at her. “Of course I do, you’re my sister Sophie and no matter what other people say or think that will never change.”

A few tears slide down my cheeks as I pulled Rosie into a hug. “Thank you,” Hugging me tighter I continued to cry.

-          2 Days later

“Beans?!”

“Four!” I shouted.

“Corn?”

“Five!”

“Good, we are all done then,” replied Sunita walking out of the back room.

“How’s Aide?” I asked straightening a rack of magazines.

“Fine, thank god! I’m sorry Sophie for the police visiting you again,” said Sunita sincerely.

“It’s ok, they were just doing their job,” I replied walking behind the counter.

“How’s Sian? I haven’t seen her around in a bit?”

“Umm…” Like a stab in the heart her name made me cringe. “I dunno.” I said looking around trying to find something to do to change the subject.

“Just weird, you two were sneaking around for weeks and now… Sophie what’s wrong?”

I stood there unable to breath my heart broke at that moment.  “Sophie? Hun?” asked Sunita wrapping an arm around my shoulders. I looked up at her my eyes full of tears and before I know it I told her everything. Expecting her to yell and kick me out I went to leave, but her hand on my shoulder stopped me.

“Sophie, do you love this girl?” I nodded my reply. “Then fight for her, don’t let those people out there tell you how to run your life. You love who you’re going to love. Soph, don’t turn your back because you will only live in regret and that’s not truly living.” I starred at Sunita awestruck by her. How I wished that this woman was my mother. I smiled and wiped away my tears. “Now Sophie, I want you to go and fight for this girl.”

Smiling, I hugged Sunita then ran out bond and determined.

-

“And where do you think you’re going?” My mother asked.

“Out!” I yelled down at her. I quickly changed my clothes and grabbed my wallet before running back down stairs. My mother and father stood there at the bottom, arms crossed waiting.

“Well, where yah going then?” asked Kevin.

“To see Sian.”

“All the way to Southport at this time of day?”

“Yes, mom that’s what I’m doing.”

“No, you’re not leaving!” shouted Kevin.

“Why?” I asked getting annoyed.

Grabbing my arm, he looked me in the eye and said, “You know why.”

Shaking my head pissed off, I backed away from him. “You know what, I don’t even care anymore!” I shouted.

“What are you talking about Sophie?” asked Sally.

“Leave it!” warned Kevin.

Letting out a sigh of disbelieve I yelled “I’m gay! Or to be correct I am a lesbian, who is in love with her best friend, Sian Powers. So I must be going because I really need to go and see my very sexy girlfriend.” Winking I left them wide eyed and speechless while Rosie clapped behind them and shouted “Well done Sis!”

-

The bus took forever to finally arrive in Southport. Taking a deep breath I could taste the salt in the air from the nearby sea. Taking a step forward I started praying to whatever god was out there to not let it be too late.

Before I know it, her house stood before me. I shook away the butterflies as I opened the gate and walked up to her door. My hands shook as I rung her door bell and I held my breath waiting for her to answer.

The door opened at last to reveal the girl who owned my heart. Smiling I quickly wrapped my arms around her neck and pulled her into a bone crushing hug.

“Sophie you’re here!” she said happily, feeling her smile against my shoulder. Pulling back slightly I kissed her, ever so inviting lips. A jolt of electricity instantly shot threw me as I moved my lips against hers. And when she moaned it gave me the opportunity to slip my tongue past her lips. Pulling me inside, I kicked the door shut and was instantly pinned against it as Sian’s lips found a very sensitive spot on my neck. Moaning my hands started roaming, over her shoulders, arms, back and finally settled on her butt. With a squeeze I lifted her up and smiled as she wrapped her legs around my waist. My lips found her again as I pushed her up against the opposite wall. Her hands tangled in my hair as our tongues fought for dominance.

“Ohh… Soph!” she moaned as I moved my hips against hers. Smiling I rolled my hips again and was very pleased when she loudly expressed her approval. About to run my hands under her shirt we heard the sounds of changeling keys and a lock being unlocked. Un-wrapping her legs from my waist, Sian quickly fixed her shirt before the door opened to reveal her mother.
