Only One (One Shot)

Hey everyone, came up with this in my math class a couple weeks ago, it has actually taken me about 3 weeks to write this. Hope you all enjoy it and comments and suggestions are very welcomed!

Only One (One Shot)

The first thing I notice is the smell; Bleach and sanitizer. Next the different sounds, the beeping the whispered voices, the crying. The bed I laid in I knew wasn't mine, it was to hard and was missing the comfy warm body of her.

I slowly opened my eyes, the bright florescence lights was what met me. I groan from the pain they caused then winced when I tried to turn my body away from it. I looked down to see a tube sticking into my left hand, confused I went to sit up only to see that my other hand was now wrapped in a purple cast. Lifting it up I examined it, my fuzzy brain not fully understanding what the hell was going on. Looking up I saw my mothers sleeping form in a chair across the room, I watched her chest rise and fall as she slept.

"Your awake." I turned to the voice and saw my dad walking in with a cup of coffee in his hand.

"Dad," I croaked my voice breaking. He gave me a small smile as he set his coffee down then quickly hugged me. My body screamed in pain but I held on tight. His hands rubbed my back making me feel safe. A feeling I hadn't felt since he left. Pulling away he looked me in the eye and kissed my forehead, "Aww Soph, you gave us a right scare."

"I, I, dad what happened I don't..." I started my voice cracking and barley above a whisper. He looked down and towards my mom "Soph, yah fell Hun. We were so so worry" he replied stroking my cheek.

"Fell?" I said out loud, the fogginess suddenly lifted and my mind filled with the images. My memories replayed and I cringed as I remembered the awful feeling of falling freely threw the air, then being envelop into a black void. Shaking my head I tried to dispel the images from my head. My father quickly pulled me back into a hug when he saw the tears well up in my eyes.

Hearing my sobs my mother pushed herself up "Sophie Hun," she said softly rising from her chair and sitting beside me on the bed wrapping her arms around my father and I. I let the tears flow freely, letting both my parents see all the hurt the I had been hiding these last few months. For the first time in weeks they sat there and held me, there was no fighting no yelling just them being together holding onto me for dear life. I don't know how long I had cried, or when the tears stop or even when I had fallen asleep but I woke up again to see my sister sitting where my mother had been. I sat up and watched her with a smirk on my face as she sat typing on her phone, "You know your not suppose to talk on your phone here right?"

Looking up she smiled and pocketed her phone, "Sis how are you feeling?"

Shrugging I slowly pushed my body up, taking care not to put to much wait on my broken arm. "Fine I guess,"

Rosie pulled her chair closer to the bed, her face turning from concern to serious "What in the right fuck were you thinking? Getting drunk and playing around on a roof."

I looked stunned at her sudden anger and tried to explain but no words came I just looked down in shame. "Oh and I know about you getting kicked out of school. Surprisingly Sian had mo idea, said something like you haven't been talking to her since she left."

"Rosie" I warned.

"No Sophie you need to hear this. What if you had died eh? How would mom and dad cope? How the hell would sian ever get over you? " I kept my eyes down and could feel the tears start to run down my cheeks. Grabbing my shoulders shaking me a little I looked up to see Rosie's upset face, tears and mascara running down her cheeks. "How the hell Soph would I get through losing my little sister." letting out a loud sob Rosie pulled me into her arms and I let her give me her death grip. Finally letting me go I wiped the Tears away from my cheeks as Rosie dried to clean her face as well but only managing to smudge mascara all over her face.

I let out a small giggle and I realized how long it had been since I laughed, even smiled. "Don't laugh Sophie I must look a right state." she said walking towards the mirror in the small washroom then let out a shirek of pure horror at her appearance. While I rolled on my side laughing.

I had fallen asleep again to Rosie telling mom some story about Jason and some girl while she drew stick people on my arm. My dreams were filled with that light feeling of falling and I found myself back on that roof just on the edge ready to fall. My body started to lean over the ledge when a warm soft hand filled mine pulling me back, back over the ledge on the roof into consciousness. As I woke up I felt my hand being held tight and my cheek being grazed by fingertips. Opening my eyes I was met by her beautiful face, her smile bright and full, but her eyes were full of sadness.

"Sian" I croaked my voice still choppy.

Cupping my cheek she leaned forward pressing a kiss to my forehead. "Soph..." My name falling from her lips was all it took to push me over the edge and tears started to flow. Her arms circled around me and I fell forward deeper into her embrace. "I'm so sorry soph, I shouldve never gone on holiday."

"No Sian it's not your fault. I was just so stupid and lost. I'm just so fucking screwed up,"

"Why didn't you call me babe?" She asked hugging me close again.

Sniffling I wiped my nose with the back of my hand and pulled back, "Figured you were having a good time and didn't wanna bother you."

"What? Soph look at me," reluctantly I looked up to see those eyes looking deep into mine. "You know I would of cone back if I knew it was this bad."

"Oh yeah bet your new girlfriend would of loved that" I shot back all the sudden very angry.

"What are you on about?" She asked confused.

"You know that black haired, perfect looking tart that's in those pictures with you."

"Larissa? Are you serious Sophie?" She asked pulling away from me.

"Is that her name then, why dont you just leave me here, poor broken Sophie and go back to Larissa." I said fuming.

Sian stood there shaking her head before pulling out her cell phone. "For your information Sophie, Larissa..." she started before throwing her phone to me. "is my moms boyfriends niece. It was his family reunion. She was nice and I could talk to her.

I looked down at the phone and saw her facebook opened up and sure enough I saw the pictures with Sian and her, but never thinking to look at the comments which read "best step cousins ever" and of the like. I instantly started to regret everything I just said.

"Do you see now Soph, that your the only one?" I looked up at her and felt the familiar pressure around my eyes as they began to fill with unshed tears. She sat down on the bed and took my hands in hers, "I love you Soph, only you. When Rosie called me and told me what happened I thought I was going to die. What if... What if... You had died Soph I don't think I could of bared this world without you." I gave her hands a squeeze and tugged her towards me till our foreheads touched. "Your it for me Soph," she whispered, "you better beleieve me."

I smiled as I pressed my lips to hers and all those bad thoughts and empty feeling simply vanished. And as I pulled her down to lay beside me I knew that she was the reason I would get through all this. She was my one and only after all.

end.
