Gah I was too lazy too update, though there're so many stuffs I've done. Anyway, I'll try to update more often.
Finally, I've finished reading The Shadow of the Wind!!! and I love it so much ♥
My dear friends, I present you...
THE SHADOW OF THE WIND
Carlos Ruiz Safon
"...few things leave a deeper mark on a reader than the first book that finds its way into his heart. Those first images, the echo of words we think have left behind, accopmpany us throughout our lives and sculpt a palace in our memory ..."
The story took place in Spain during the time of Franco, lol and there're some concernings about politics in the book too, which is quite fun to read about in my opinion. It all started when young Daniel, a bookseller's son, was taken to The Ceremetry of Forgotten Books by his father at night. According to the tradition, he brought back a book called 'The Shadow of the Wind' by Julian Carax. As it turns out this is a very special and extremely rare book. But, as someone has been going around for years collecting and destroying all copies of all of Carax's works, being guardian of the book isn't entirely without danger.
Later on Daniel began to learn about the story of the author and discovered stories and people while he had to protect himself and the book from danger from a mysterious man name Lain Coubert who gave him an offer to buy the book no matter how high the price would be, and that name, Lain Coubert...was the name for devil in 'the Shadow of the Wind' itself. After that, Daniel tried every way he could to know about Julian Carax... and like those Russian dolls, there're smaller ones inside the biggest one.
:))) I really love those characters, they're charming. Firmin Romero de Torres is my most favorite. While reading, I even felt the dark Gothic atmophere with some smokes in the air xD haha the writer is really good. Plus, I came across many many beautiful & smart quotes! ☆
[x] We exist as long as somebody remembers us.
[x] Presents are made for the pleasure of who gives them, not for the merits of who receives them.
[x] A secret's worth depends on the people from which it must be kept.
[x] Fools talk, cowards are silent, wise men listen.
[x] People talk too much. Humans aren't descended from monkeys. They come from parrots. --> This is so true!!! lmao!
[x] God gives us life, but the world's landlord is the devil...
[x] Sometimes we think people are like lottery tickets, that they're there to make our most absurd dreams come true.
[x] The moment you stop to think about whether you love someone, you've already stopped loving that person forever. --> Love this one the most :)))
Therefore, Carlos Ruiz Safon has become my favorite writer ^___^ This book is recommended!
I'm yours, forever & always,
Alisa, who loves you ♥
