LoTL reaction post

Well. I was going to post something last night but my lack of skill with LJ cuts wiped out half of my reaction. Here's hoping that the cuts worked this time. But I think most of you on my flist have seen the episode already.

So...upon further consideration....

What I Liked:

-Martha, on her own, spreading the word, carrying out her mission on her own. The thought of her being the last person out of Japan was chilling. She finally lived up to all of that potential that we saw in the first episode, where she was the one not panicking. And I liked that once she grew a backbone, it didn't dissolve at the sight of the Doctor's baby browns. She loves him but knows he can't return that love and she's getting on with her life.

-The idea of the Doctor tuning in to the Archangel Network and using the Master's own tool against him.

-The Master's death scene was so very poignant.

-The fact that the Master isn't *really* dead.

-That the Doctor invited Jack to come along again. I had been hoping he'd do that, and that Jack would say he had a responsibility to his team. The door is WIDE open for them to be together again and that makes me happy.

What didn't make sense:

-The Doctor as Yoda. Not Gollum. Yoda. It hit me while watching the Confidential. But hey. When 900 years old I reach, look that good I will not.

-The 3PM rebellion. I didn't get that at all; if Martha was carrying out the Doctor's mission, why would they need to upset the applecart just before zero hour?

-Lucy Saxon's change. It wasn't explained, really. From the beginning of the episode, she didn't seem so enchanted with the Master anymore. But I didn't have a real handle on why. And *WHY* was she in that red evening dress for the whole episode?

What I didn't like:

-Not nearly enough Jack. I wanted so much more, and he was really under-utilized in both of the last two episodes. I was proud of him for living up to his responsibilities, but disappointed at his parting with the Doctor. It was anti-climactic.

-The "I do believe in fairies" method of using the Archangel Network. It just didn't work for me. I might have preferred to see everyone in the world focusing on controlling the Master or something like that.

-Levitating Doctor. Again, that method of healing him just didn't work.

What should have surprised me but didn't:

-The identity of the Toclafane. I was expecting that.

-Jack as the Face of Boe. I was expecting that as well, based on something I've read in the past. But it didn't really do anything for me...wasn't as earth-shattering as I'd thought it would be.

Now, the newest press release about Freema has me thinking about possibilities...

Do we have an air date for TW S2? I thought I'd heard January. And usually DW premieres in March. Beginning of January to end of March is 13 weeks.

What if Jack returns to the TARDIS at the start of S4? Granted, that's a LOT of work for JB...but he *likes* to work.

I know, not likely. But I think I'll stay in this happy universe where the Doctor and Jack rescue Rose from the parallel universe before Jackie and Mickey make her crazy, and then run off for shagtastic adventures.

Alternately, I may just stay in my AU where Doomsday is fixed already, and the Doctor didn't *know* about Jack's immortality. (Still mad at him for running off on Jack.)

Ooh. And that brings up a question...if Jack is a fixed point in time, how can he age at all?

All right, far too much rambling because it's late.

And in other news...I accidentally parboiled our goldfish today when I tried to change the water in their bowl. It's been so hot that the water was too warm for them even when I ran it as cold as I could. :-(
