*Squees* OMG this was just so gorgeous. I love the narrative voice, and the use of first person really brought the emotions home. My heart broke when he thought he'd made a mistake, and the fifth paragraph from the end tore me up completely. The anguish and heartbreak in that paragraph in particular was just stunning
