A fantastic Valentines weekend

The Boot and I appear to be somewhat out of fashion by actually enjoying Valentines day and normally make a bit of an effort to do something together.
So with it being on a weekend and with The Boot working the Saturday morning, we hatched an agreement by which I would take care of Saturday and she the agenda for the Sunday.

So I spent a leisurely Saturday morning/early afternoon doing some shopping and getting an hours massage, before returning home to provide sirloin steak in dolcellate sauce for us both which was, if I do say so myself, rather good!

The Boot also got to unwrap her presents which included a selection of horror movies to help stimulate her horror writing and other more romantic type gifts that are not discussed here! :) Suffice to say she was delighted with it all.

However the Boot totally trumped me this year. Mysterious in her mysteriousity she made me dress up moderately smartly and marched us in to town, even insisting that we were ten minutes early for our train - a feat unheard of in all known recordings of Boot history!

Naturally, it being a Sunday, TFL conspired to send us round the houses with various line closures (for improvements!) but eventually we made our way to Charing Cross from whence I was led to the Coliseum. Yes, the Boot being an total romantic at heart had booked us tickets for La Boheme!

Tickets safely collected we found a place for a quick lunch, the Hamburger House which was a lot better in the eating than it sounds! Then we returned to the Coliseum for my first experience of live Opera.

I loved it. We were both a little surprised that it was in English, but it was funny, moving and beautiful with the duets between the Sopranos being moments of pure beauty. Not even the half time mugging for the glass of champagne (not the cost so much as the fact that the bell ordering us back to our seats went off five minutes early, thus forcing us to next our Bolly with indecent haste!) could take the shine off a magical afternoon.

It was an incredibly romantic experience, a pity that after the show there was only time for a coffee before the Boot had to make her way to the studio for a late shift finishing at 02:00 the next morning and I back home alone. Well as alone as anyone with four cats can be.....

Still, there is always tonight. :)
