It's all about the fairies today
I can't believe it's almost September aka the Month of Awesome Things (see previous post)! Almost time for Warrior and 50/50! \o/\o/\o/
1) Update on RL: So. I got the job. :D I'm now a "communications specialist" for a gigantic company-wide project. I'm simultaneously terrified and exhilirated. It's going to be a huge increase in my workload, especially since I'll be doing both my old and new job until they find a replacement and my teammate is going on maternity leave any day now. Basically, increase in pay (which is nice), lots of writing (which we all know I'm super slow at), staggering load of responsibility, and a lot less free time. Into the breach I go, full steam ahead! XD I'll do my best to keep up with everyone but if I'm a bit slower to reply/leave comments, this is why. Apologies in advance, bbs! ♥
2) A music friending meme hosted by nahara! I love meeting new people! ♥ (Hi, new friends, hi! I've been meaning to write up a new, fannish intro post but for now this one will have to do; my profile is a better indication of my current interests. Additional book pimpage: So two weeks ago, kiyala and I are talking about her Inception BB and she brings up the Toby Daye novels, and I say, I've heard of the series, are those good, and she says, oh they're fantastic, go read them! The first book arrived last Tues and I started on Wed. Fast forward to Sun and I've read all 4 in the series, looked up 's blog, and started on Newsflesh (written by the same author under a diff name) which features zombies and bloggers (intriguing, no? ahem jibrailis, ahem; also paging starlingthefool and gollumgollum, my zombie party ladies o_o_o_\o/ ). 4 books in 5 days isn't anything special, unless you consider that I don't have 3-4 free hrs for reading after I leave work so I had to squeeze in the reading time after midnight every single night. Sleep? What is sleep? TOTALLY WORTH IT. The Toby Daye series is incredibly entertaining, with complex, interesting characters, and engaging plots; this is the best kind of urban fantasy and I highly recommend it.
4) inception_bang signups are open! I'm so excited about all the prompts and ideas floating around. SO EXCITED! :D
5) If this doesn't convince you that Tom Hardy is magical and made of awesome, there is no hope, no kittens, no happy things in the world. The man wanted to cuddle all the people in the elevator. I just. *____* Please, THard, never change! (azewewish, your stories always, always bring a smile to my face)
6) My quest to watch all the Criminal Minds reruns available on my TV continues. Still haven't seen most of season 6 so I still don't know what this Seaver person looks like. But all the eps without JJ? Giant hole right in the middle. =/ Can't wait for Sept and the start of season 7!
Fic recs of joy:
1) Buyer's Remorse by silviakundera (TSN, Mark/Eduardo, R to be safe) - When Eduardo Saverin has a sudden vacancy for a best friend, no one on earth expects Sean Parker to fill it -- least of all Sean himself. OR In which Sean Parker accidentally grows up, stumbles into a priorities readjustment, and helps Eduardo kick True Love's ass like a boss. One of the best things I've read this week. This fic is brilliant and hilarious. I love Sean's voice and his POV and the fascinating progression of his thoughts. This fic made me LIKE Sean Parker (at least this iteration of him) which is a miracle all on its own.
2) for today or the rest of my life by calicocat (Iron Man movie!verse, Pepper/Tony, Pepper/OMC, NC17) - Pepper finds a boyfriend. Tony hates to share. So kiyala and I were discussing the movie Captain America (as you do; also I think I need a kiyala was here tag, she is such an enabler ♥) and I abruptly remembered this fic that I'd loved to death but read before Inception fandom claimed my heart and I started reccing all the things. The summary sounds like a cliche. Trust me, this story is anything but. This fic is wonderful. It's layered and nuanced and funny and witty. This is what I think of when I imagine Pepper Potts. This story is the reason why I have trouble wrapping my head around Iron Man/Captain America, because my head canon is irreversibly stuck on THIS Pepper and Tony and I want them to be together so badly. I just want them to be happy forever.
3) The only emperor by coloredink (Sherlock, gen, PG) - It never occurred to Sherlock Holmes that an ice cream shop might attract children. This was recced to me by the lovely sorrynotsorry and it is delightful and charming and hilarious and merges so well with canon and you should all read it, too. <3
4) Love is a many tentacled thing by immoral_crow and red_rahl (Inception, Arthur/Eames, PG) - Arthur has a grenade throwing octopus named Oscar. Cracky fluff of the best kind + adorable art. Something sweet and soothing, guaranteed to make you smile. :D
