Lessons learned from Dollhouse.

"We literally become what we do, not what we've done, or what we will do. We're best defined by our actions in the moment." (Bennett, Epitath Two.)

People say all the time, 'live in the moment'. Hell, it is something said over and over again even in the series that Whedon creates--Buffy, Angel, Dollhouse, etc. And yet I've never really accepted it; I've always been someone who thinks in the past and future - what has happened, what will happen, and so on.

Watching the finale of Dollhouse, and hearing these words, it just clicked with me. We can establish facts and gain kharis with the gods through our past actions, but that is only because, once, it was our action of the moment. In order to retain good relationships, with anyone (from mortal to divine), we have to act in the moment. We have to do what we say we will do; not make excuses, or put things off until the next day. We have to let our actions speak for themselves, to let ourselves be defined by what we do--by who we truly are.

We have to simply learn to be--and to be content with that. For that is who we are, and who we will always be.
