Yay! Eight hours of work done to get the cath lab set up to run. Eight sweaty hours. It's about 80 degrees outside and 90 inside. But we got it all done. One of the Ugandan staff members, Charles, the Cath Lab nurse here...yeah, yeah, two Charles' and both Cath Lab nurses from across the world...go figure...worked tirelessly along side us to get everything done. The tech Paul was not present today which is too bad because there is so much to teach. But like almost everyone here he probably has a second or third job just to keep a roof over his head and feed his kids. So, it's understandable when some of the Ugandan staff can't be here. But Charles was a trouper. You can tell he's very invested in his work.
The Ugandan people are as I remembered them from last year. Quiet, warm smiles and very proper. Always dressed sharply and never complaining. I got lots of hugs today as we entered the building. That made it all worth while returning. it doesn't even seem like a year now. Well, since we're mostly set up now we can relax tonight, have a great meal together...probably Indian...Mmmmm Chicken tika masala!
