So yeah, its been a while but my class was cancelled and instead of studying or doing something else more productive I decided to update my journal for you all. Last time I updated, it was Firday the 11th of March, and I didn´t have school that I remember and did stuff at home blah blah blah, till that evening I found out about a party at my friend Jaron´s house, who had recently moved. I was supposed to go with Magdalena because all my American friends bailed on me, and then suprise, Mada´s boyfriend shows up and guess what she dosent want to go either. Well I´m not about to go by myself because its kinda far away to walk to where you´ve never been at night. So I went down to the bar below my house to see if my friend Jose wanted to go, and of course he did with his friends Victor and Javi. So the four of us went to the party which was in this awesome giant house, not an appartment with tons of people and we all had a really good time. We had gone in car but ended up walking home because the driver ended up staying. VIctor, JOse and I all live in the same appartment building so Victor and I walked home together and I went to bed at like 5 AM.
Saturday I woke up like an hour and 45 minutes later at 645 to go to Cadiz on our last group trip with our program. Obviously I was tired but you can sleep when you are dead. We made our first stop in Jerez where we went to these famous stables that breed the best Spanish horses and saw this horse show with all the horses like running and prancing and doing all these tricks. Then we took a tour and a lady explaing to us how the stables worked and history and stuff like that. Then we went to a bodega or a winery for wine tasting, because the wine from jerez is just as famous as its horses. The bodega was less interesting for me than the horses obvioulsy. Then we went to Cadiz a beautiful, famous oldest city in Spain or something like that. THe most important aspect of Cadiz is that its on the beach. You could tell that all us Californians were going through serious beach withdrawls because as soon as we got there, we dumped our stuff in the hotel, changed and went down to the closest water. It didnt matter that it was about 7PM and cold and getting dark, we crazy kids were out there enjoyng our native enviroment. I didnt swim because the water was freezing but we all had a good time. We went back to the hotel and changed and went to a Mexican resturat for our friend Jaren´s birthday (the one who had a party in the amazing house.) Man I really miss Californian mexican food because its just not the same and they hove no idea what they are missing. When they brought out the chips and salsa for our big table of like 10 people, they brought out like 3 bowls of tiny salsa with four chips arranged around it. Now, when there arent enough chips for everyone at the table to have one, you know you are a long ways from california. ANyway, after the dinner we went to the b each and had an illegal bonfire. It was awesome, there till 3 am goofing off and having a bonfire. When the police came they told us we couldnt do that, we played the dumb tourist and then t hey let us stay and didnt even kick us off.
That night Matt and Laurel called me at like 6 Am but I was so tired even though we talked for like 30 minutes, I dont think I said anything. Then I got up at like 8 to go down to this giant contenential breakfast that was supposed to be the b omb. It was pretty good and I ate a ton so I wouldnt hav eto buy lunch. hehe, always take advantage of a buffett. Then we went on a tour of the city with the most annoying and worst tour guide I´ve ever had. I took a piece of the cathedral home, and bought some cds from a random guitar player in the street. T hen we went to the beach and laid out for like and hour an da half and of course I got sunburnt. What would a day at the beach be like without a sunburn? Then we went back to meet the bus and I ran frantically trying to find a magnet and finally found the perfect one and then we headed back to Granada. We ate junk food and watched movies on the bus, got home in the evening, chilled with the roommies, showered and tried to doctor the burns and went to bed relatvely early, since I hadnt slept all weekend.
Monday the 14th started another normal week of class, guitar and work until Thursday when class was done and spring break started. I didnt have to work Thursday afternoon and got lunch with my friend Victor from my building, hung out and went to class in the evening, then came home, packed my bag for spring break, went and saw a movie, Assualt on Preccint 13, with Victor and then his friend dropped me off at the bus station at like 1 am. That night I was going to Valencia with Andre, a friend from Long Beach studying here with me, to see Las fallas a really famous fiesta, here in Spain. So the bus left at like 2 AM and I was on the bus trying to sleep for like for like 9 hours till we got there in the morning. Then we walked to the people´s house, friends of Andre, who we were staying with. We rested, I showered and ate some paella . Altough I was looking forward to eating paella since its from Valencia, this kinda sucked because it was a frozen food item and on top of that the girl burned it. Andre´s friends are from Argentina and because I wasnt used to their accent, they thought I was a retard that didn´t speak Spanish and directed all questions about me through Andre. They are really wierd people, a young, immature couple. Then we went in to town and walked around looking at the fallas. The fallas are these giant, beautifl works of art paper mache stuff that each neighborhood spends all year desgining and working on. They depict the bad things of the year, or critics of things or some are just pretty I think. There are tons all around the city and we walked around went home in the evening and ate dinner and then went out again the four of us to see a big fireworks show. It was really cool, some of the best fireworks I´ve ever seen and there were a ton of people in the street, and music and a really cool enviroment. Then the couple went home, but Andre wanted to stay so I stayed with him. But then like 30 minutes later he said he wanted to go home, and I was like you just said goodbye to our free ride. (The people live way out of town like 20 minutes walk from the last metro stop, so getting home easily and cheaply wasnt wasnt easy.) So we stayed out a little longer, walking around, got some amazing chocolate covered churrros, and one that was custard filled, talk about grease overdose, but they were good, finally made it home and went to bed. ok well i´m getting kicked off now but this is better than nothing, so enjoy. love, rachel
