Darn!

I decided last week to start posting in my LJ every Sunday night. And what do I do? Miss the first Sunday night since deciding!

Oh well.

No work for a few days this week -- I'm on jury duty. I've been a registered voter in Tennessee since I turned 18, but this is the first time I've ever been called. In the almost ten years I lived in Los Angeles, I was called maybe half a dozen times -- the first time within the first four months I lived there!

Today was okay. Got a little reading done before getting called on a panel, then read some more while waiting in the hall. Then sat on a hard wooden bench for forever while the judge told us about the case, then while the attorneys questioned the first 13 people called up. (You're not allowed to read while in the courtroom.) Then, after being dismissed, went back to the jury assembly room, had lunch (provided by the court, because they're in a "temporary" location for a few years while the historic courthouse downtown is being renovated, and the "temporary" location is nowhere near civilization and fast food restaurants). Then the jury manager sent us home, with instructions to come back tomorrow morning. Then I took a nap to sleep off a developing migraine.

All in all, a pretty nice day. :-)

I am glad I didn't get on that case, though -- child rape. Shudder. I think the multiple murder case I was on in L.A. fulfills my civic duty on the hard emotional cases for a while.

I'd love to get on a civil case, maybe medical malpractice or negligence or something. Both the juries I was on in L.A. were criminal cases, so civil would be a nice change.

More reading tomorrow -- trip # 3 through Bloody Bones. Just the notion of vampires and werewolves in Branson, Missouri, makes me giggle.

(BTW -- thanks for the responses to my last post. It's good to be climbing out of lurkdom, however slowly. I've missed you guys!)
