It has been raining-well, drizzling is more like it-for the biggest part of the afternoon. That being said, I have been stuck in the house. With the Hubs working from home, I have been left to my own devices. That’s just a fancy way of saying I gave my apartment a good and proper cleaning, cleaned out the fish tank, and spent the majority of the day in the kitchen making a rather lovely mess of things.
meladara posted a delicious looking dessert and it put me in the mood to bake. This is what happens when I bake.
4 cups of fresh or frozen fruit. I used freshly picked black berries for this one.
2 cups sugar, divided
1/2 cup water
8 tablespoons butter
1 1/2 cups self-rising flour
1 1/2 cups milk
Cinnamon sugar
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Combine the fruit, 1 cup sugar, and water in a saucepan and mix well. Bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from the heat.
Put the butter in a 3-quart baking dish and place in oven to melt.
Mix remaining 1 cup sugar, flour, and milk slowly to prevent clumping. Pour mixture over melted butter. Do not stir. Spoon fruit on top, gently pouring in syrup. Sprinkle top with cinnamon sugar. Batter will rise to top during baking. Bake for 30 to 45 minutes.
To serve, scoop onto a plate and serve with your choice of whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
I managed to get the newest chapter of The Beginning of Truth posted to queue at Ashwinder and uploaded on FF.net. The response for this chapter has been beyond what I expected. I woke up with several new alerts and fantastic comments from the SSHG shippers. If I didn’t have these people pushing me for updates, I would have chickened out months ago when I loaded the first chapter! Sadly, the end is approaching with this story. That could change, however, given the way I obsess over it.
