If this would work, I would have to write in German. But then, most of you wouldn't be able to read this. So I'll write in English.
And this is for me before the Christmas when I was nine.
Dear Lara!
You don't know me yet. But I only know you all too well.
Most of your next ten years or so are going to be great.
You will learn to read better soon and Fräulein Mertens won't be mad at you any more. You can practice by reading stories to the baby. It can hear and you will have someone to talk to in spoken language at home.
Clarissa will give you a special present for Christmas. Accept it. You will have a lot of fun with it. But Papa will not like it. So don't forget to tell him a lot that you love him.
One thing about Clarissa you should know: She is not as cool as you think.
Be yourself. Don't try to be like her. It will safe you a lot of tears and trouble.
And don't let her talk you into cutting your hair. You'll only regret. And it will need a long time to grow again. Just because Clarissa had short hair when she was your age you don't have to get yours cut too.
And don't ask Mama why she can't ride a bike. She has Problems with her balance because of her ears. Accept that. She might be willing to learn after the baby is born. And you could have a lot of fun. And she would really like it. But riding a bike in the streets will always be dangerous for her. More than for Papa. And some day something terrible will happen.
Yours,
a friend.
