Veronica kept a constant pressure on the hand she was holding, even when she felt the bones grate together. “I’ll give you one more chance to tell me what you did with Mac’s thesis, Marco, before I break the bones in your writing hand. It would be a shame, don’t you think, if you weren’t able to hold your cards during Friday’s poker game.”
It was disturbing that he hadn’t said a word since the interrogation started but the Physics professor had a lot at stake here and keeping his mouth shut was his only hope. Veronica was prepared to go through with her threat to break the bones if it meant she would get the information, from his own mouth, that would corroborate everything that she’d found so far.
“I’ve got all the time in the world.”
His eyes narrowed as another bone started to give way but he still didn’t scream or beg for mercy the way she’d been hoping he would by this point. “How much is she paying you to rough me up?” he finally asked, his voice strained.
“I’m doing this pro bono. You messed with the wrong girl this time.”
