It had all been a misunderstanding, the sort of thing that only seemed to happen when Ronon wanted to take Amelia somewhere nice and safe for a date. The first time, they'd tried dinner on Belkan but several of the Satendans that lived there decided to stop in for a visit and he'd been unable to pull himself away from the stories and, most importantly, the ale. Amelia had dragged him home and refused to talk to him for three days. He sent her some flowers and all was well.

Their second date, they'd tried taking a picnic to the mainland. The weather was guarenteed to be beautiful but that forecast proved to be erroneous when a cloudburst sent them scurrying for the safety of the jumper. That had been a nice little diversion and the food had tasted just as good in the jumper as it would have beside the stream that Amelia had chosen but it wasn't a date. Not as Amelia had explained the custom to him. He wanted it to be something special.

For their third date, Amelia suggested something on Earth. He'd jumped at the chance to see her part of the world, to see if it was the same as the places that Sheppard had showed him. Their first stop was a mall because, she'd informed him, they needed to look the part. Once again he found himself in a suit jacket, the restrictive cut leaving him on edge as they existed the large building. There had only been room on his person for ten of the knives, the rest in the glossy bag holding their old clothes that Amelia had insisted on carrying as if she knew what exactly he'd tucked away underneath his leathers.

"This is really what you've done on other dates?" Ronon yanked at the lapels of the coat, hating the way he likes the smooth feel of the material under his fingertips. He was getting used to these Earth clothes, something that could be very bad for him in the long-run. "Other men have taken you out while you were dressed... like that?"

There was no denying that the dress was stunning. She only blushed when he first mentioned how beautiful she looked, a silent reminder to him that she didn't like when he mentioned things like that. He'd always wondered if it was because she was a soldier but Carter had never minded when she was given a compliment. It was just an Amelia thing. The list of Amelia things was growing ever longer the more time he spent with her.

"Yes, it's quite common to dress like this for a date." When Amelia tugged at the hem of the short skirt, he knew she was just as uncomfortable in these clothes as he was. Made for a pretty stupid way to spend an evening, all cossetted and layered but even he had to admit that she looked beautiful in that color. The green of the soft material made her eyes stand out and she'd painted her lips so they were a deep brown, much better than some of the pinks and reds he'd seen the women in the mall wearing so that they looked false. Amelia had just accented the beauty she already possessed.

"Really?" But now he was playing with her more than anything. Before he could continue, a scream made his shoulders tighten. This was Earth. He'd always thought of it as a safe place compared to some of the worlds he'd been to, both while on Sheppard's team and as a Runner.

Before he could be stopped, Ronon took off around the corner toward the sound. He was in time to see a dark-haired girl executing a round-house kick that was a thing of beauty. The only person he knew who was better at that particular kick was right behind him, cursing him for not waiting for her to kick off her silly shoes before they took off after the danger.

There was a crowd but most of them were hovering over a woman slumped in the street. She appeared to be injured although there was no blood. The bystanders had it taken care of so Ronon didn't give her any other thought. He did, however, move closer to the two people fighting. That was what interested him.

"Ronon, we really should-"

A white van came to a halt beside the two people circling each other. When the door opened, Ronon heard someone mutter, "This wasn't supposed to be how this ended. The paperwork alone is going to have me busy for a week."

The person stepping out of the opening door gave a gruff laugh before raising his hand. There was a pop that Ronon wouldn't have heard if he hadn't been looking right at the tiny black gun that was in the man's hands and then wasn't. The burly man dropped like a stone.

"Are you ready for your treatment?"

The dark-haired girl stopped moving, turning toward the van to take the man's hand but Ronon missed her comment as Amelia tugged at his arm. "This will work itself out. You and I have reservations."

He wondered if she'd seen everything he had seen or if it even mattered to her. Maybe this sort of thing happened every day on Earth, a fight ending just as quickly as it happened. These Earthers were strange, he decided once again. Very strange indeed.
