Oh, the drama we perceive

I don't want to get in the middle of any "altercations" but have you seen the Anti Fanfic Bingo card cause that's pure genius!

There is an official list (somewhere) that lists the aunthors that don't allow fanfic of their work. That is perfectly acceptable. You ask nicely and I won't touch your work.

But don't try to turn fanfic into something equal to murder/doing drugs/breaking and entering. That's just not cool.

Personally, I think that people shouldn't ask stupid questions but you don't see me ranting here about how they should be arrested. I think they're annoying and I really hate it when they talk around me. It doesn't mean I'm going to call the cops on them. Granted there are copyright laws in place but until someone with a badge comes along and tells me to quit posting my writing... I will continue as I have for several years now.

98% of the people I know online at this moment are because of a shared love of one fandom or another. I'm not the kind to sit around "discussing" a book, movie or TV show. Boring! But give me people who love to write or create in some way and I'M THERE! I don't find anything out about you when you say "Yeah, that episode was cool" to a post about Merlin/Supernatural/Lost/Handy Manny but I do find out amazing things when I read 1000 words on how Draco spent his summer holidays.

Once again, it is well within an author's prerogative to say if fanfiction can be created for their world. I'm sorry for the people that don't like it because there are plenty of writers out there that would love it if people liked their stuff enough to fanfic it. There are only certain worlds that have a following of fanficcers. To capture someone's fancy (by leaving gray spaces or having interesting characters or creating a world full of interesting places to visit) is by far the best thing a writer can aspire to. You want readers? Fine. I'll read your book. Probably only once. But if I'm fanficcing in your world, that means I'm REREADING your books to the point that I have them memorized. I LIKE your book and your world if I'm writing about it. How does that make me an evil person?

Now plagiarism is wrong! I will always agree that it's wrong. But fanficcing... that's a gray area that I don't see any problem with.
