As promised earlier. Here is my review of Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull...
After watching nearly half an hour of adverts including nearly ten trailers. (Including
'Hancock', The Obligatory Will Smith Summer Blockbuster.) The main feature finally started.
Set entirely in the late 50s during the early McCarthy era. We see our hero for the first time being dragged out of a car boot with his buddy Mac, (Ray Winstone), near a large U.S. government warehouse in The New Mexican dessert by some Russians posing as american soldiers. Their leader,
Agent Irina Spalko, (Cate Blanchett), needs Dr Jones to locate one particular artifact in the cavernous warehouse...
...It's just after the heavily magnetic container is found, that's when the fun begins and we start our roller-coaster two hour ride which takes involves him surviving a nuclear test, looses his teaching post, meets up with a young male upstart,
A la Brando in 'On The Waterfront', who asks him for his help to discover the whereabouts of his missing old friend, Professor Oxley, (John Hurt). The journey then moves to Peru where our Duo discover the incomprehensible scrawlings on the wall of a cell
previously occupied by Oxley. When de-cyphered by Indy, they lead them to a secret burial place of a Spanish Conquistador. This is where our hero discovers the Crystal Skull...
Well that's as much as I'm going to say about the plot so far...However me thinks that Mr Lucas hath been reading up a little
Erich Von Daniken as parts of the story bear a striking resemblance to ideas talked about in the book,
Chariots Of The Gods'.
All in all, this is one of the better sequels that Mr Lucas has come up with in recent years. It's a ripping yarn throughout and will be great family entertainment!
