Seeking Gluten-Free Pie Crust Recipe

Mar 25, 2005 15:54

Does anyone have a good gluten-freen pie crust recipe, suitable for savory pies like pot pies, that contains not only no wheat but also no potato products, no corn products and neither guar nor xantham gum? Non-gum binders like arrowroot or agar or tapioca are fine.

Short answer: no. But I'm bored at work, so

pop-tart recipe that can be used as pie crust:

Sweet (graham cracker-ish) pie crust:

I avoid wheat when I can, which is not as much as I should. I haven't used any of these recipes.

Thanks! That first one looks quite promising. I'm just starting to try to avoid wheat so I'm very short on recipes currently. At least I have a really good GF bakery about five blocks away, but unfortunately they don't have pie crusts. Pizza crusts, yes, pie crusts no.

Gluten-free, corn-free, and no xantham gum?

Yeah, I can get hives from xantham and guar gums. Given my reaction to wheat is much milder (as far as I can tell it just makes me drag) it's not a good trade.

Oooh! non-crumb! This is very promising.

Cannola oil should work (heck, for what I want, even olive would). And I have lots of interesting flours, some Bob's Red Mill, some other brands (I'm strategically placed for someone who has flour problems as there are five places within a mile or two that I can think of off the top of my head that carry alternate flours).

Thanks!

All I want is to be able to make chicken and mushroom pie. *g*

Try using a cup and one-quarter of almond flour, three or four tablespoons of melted butter, and one quarter cup of vanilla-flavoured protein powder. Mix the solids together, add butter, press into pie pan - works well in a springform, but works just as well in pie plates. Bake at 400 degrees for about 8 minutes, or until toasted. Cool and add ingredients for pie.
If you add about one quarter cup of Splenda, this makes a great pie crust for fruit and pudding pies, too.

My 13 year old nephew, who developed Type I diabetes a year ago, also started showing symptoms of (and tested positive for) celiac. Given the large family history on my father's side of haywire immune reponse-related conditions (my father had Crohn's, I have Type I diabetes) I was ordered recently to be tested for the four major antibodies they use to determine celiac. Amazingly enough, it came back negative. You?

And on a completely unrelated note, tonight's SG-1. What was that, "Fanservice: The Motion Picture"? (relax, I liked it)

Actually, I haven't been tested (and probably should be). Avoiding common food sensitivities is just generally suggested for fibromyalgia. Along with lots of other stuff (like too many carbs, caffiene, alcohol, all the usual suspects).

Something like that. I figure given what I've heard about what they have up their sleeves for next season, they may feel they owe it.

I infer "Jack bites the big one" from that.

BTW, no idea why LiveJournal thinks we're all living in Greenwich (the time).
