The reason retail stores are in decline.

Lack of variety. Lack of knowledge. Lack of caring.

I went to 15 different 'hardware' stores looking for a Torx tamper-resistant T-8 sized screwdriver. Every time I asked for this very specific device, I had some deranged-looking dude start looking through rows of hex-tools. I specifically told them I needed something long to fit into a narrow space and they continued to try and sell me a hex driver for which they had no Torx T-8 bit (let alone the tamper-resist type).

Every store had the same fucking inventory. Like there's some sort of pissing contest on who can have the most unsold shit rotting on the shelves. Home Depot has 9 brands of philips-head screwdriver of exactly the same length and head shape. All made in china out of the lowest-grade steel possible.

After two days and a lot of frustration (I had hoped to at least open the device I'm trying to fix this week), Amazon got my business. Less than 6 dollars, 4 of which was shipping.

Didn't stores used to have people responsible for choosing which products were stocked? Even the so called 'specialty' places stock the same tired shit. I don't get it.
