An idiotic adventure.
Digging into the definitions of words and the words of definitions I once discovered that an idiot is not at all what you just thought. Here's a quote from
the relevant wiki: "from Ancient Greek ἰδιώτης (idiōtēs, “a private citizen, one who has no professional knowledge, layman”), from ἴδιος (idios, “one's own, pertaining to oneself, private”); ἰδιώτης (idiōtēs) was used derisively in ancient Athens to refer to one who declined to take part in public life." And so I now understand what my political (from πόλις "city, state") creed is. I'm an idiot! Whether it is good or bad is for future generations to judge, I myself quite like it at the moment.
And this was not a secret for Fyodor Dostoyevsky.
And he wrote "Idiot" the novel.
And here's my advice to you: read it once again.
But we got destracted. Being an exceptionally restless kind I decided to draw community's attention to three points:
1. Words are not always what we think of them.
2. Being an idiot is not so bad after all.
3. I added the third point just for good measure so you may fill this in at your convenience.
As I'm considered to be a calligrapher (which is
not at all true! I just got in on the act at some point), I came up with a plan to entreat other real calligraphers to depict the word 'idiot; as they see it. And not just depict but also send me their precious creations.
I can't bring myself to call this a project, and whatever may come of it I haven't got any idea since I'm an idiot! So we just follow the natural order of things and observe the reality.
Here's my idiotic adventure...
I will share my findings with the internet community as I receive the originals, and the community dropping for tea will get a chance to have a look at the real things.
And so!
P.S. If you'd like to join in and have your own little share of idiocy, you are very welcome! I will be delighted to find like-minded people.
The important thing is for us not to create a party of idiots since what kind of idiots will we then be?
My idiot.
Others.
