Another Victorian-era novel. There is the requisite young woman who gets married by the end, but I have to say it was a bit more interesting than Jane Austen's work given the twists and surprises and revelations that wound their way through it ( Read more... )

Thanks for reminding me of the Jane Eyre characters. You describe them well. I loved both books. Liked Huck Finn better, though. Too bad you can't catch that one. It was a little more contemplative or dark.

I'm about a quarter of the way through Huck Finn and enjoying it. I think the first person narrative suits Mark Twain's style and keeps you a little more immersed than the third person.

I have five more books in the "12 Books to Read Before You Die Volume 1."

Oh, that's good!!

Looking forward to hearing about the others. I forgot - is there a time limit? Did you have to give much personal info for this trial subscrp?

I did think that Huck Finn was up there as a great novel.

The subscription was through my Amazon account, essentially, so it is linked to that on the trial. If you put the subscription on pause you can still listen for up to 90 days before you either unpause or fully cancel it. I put mine on the 90 day pause, which should be enough time to finish listening to the two compilations I am working my way through. I have 22 hours left on one and 92 hours to get through the second volume. We'll see if I make it through!
