Take a Guess

How long did it take for me to load up Tru-D in the horse trailer today for the second time ever?

Poll Tru-D Loaded in the trailer:

It took about two minutes. She looked at it, sniffed, stepped on the ramp and since the first time we had just opened the door and let her unload herself I asked her to back and step up a few times so she understood how she was supposed to get out before getting her all the way in. She did excellent, though, especially for the second time ever. Maybe I can load her up and take her to the property and do some walking around there and work in the roundpen before trying to venture farther afield.

This morning I took Kash over to the property to ride during the lesson with Keara and Toby. Toby is doing 1000x better than when Dave and Marty got him back last year. He is still a bit of a clunky gallump, but that's ok. Keara's been enjoying him and he is happily sound for what all she does with him. Kash was a bit of a nutjob to start and I was able to warm him up in the roundpen before Keara arrived. He tore around flagging his tail and blowingn alternating between cantering and that lovely, floaty Arab trot. You wouldn't know the knucklehead was going to be eighteen this year.

He did pretty well once I got on. A little impatient and pawing, but he kept his feet where they were supposed to be and didn't try anything too silly. It is going to take more than two rides there before I can comfortably put students on him over there, however.

In property news Chris and I finally laid out the waterline stuff. I met with a guy about getting the trees removed and he is supposed to get me a quote tomorrow sometime. I need to sit down and find a place to pick up a storage container from so I can have a tackroom and don't have to lug that back and forth. I am looking at the 20' ones because I think 40' is too big, plus the ultimate goal is a mare motel/barn that will have both a tack and feed room, which would make the container redundant (that's probably a 5-10 year down the road thing if not more).

Water and tack room then I can start teaching over there for real instead of here and there.

Today I took Hershey and Kitt to have their teeth floated and E-va came along for her first set of shots and a once-over from Chatham. He said she was in a lot better shape than he was expecting. We talked about her current feed regime, said her teeth were OK and could be done, but didn't necessarily NEED to be done. There isn't a whole lot of catching up ahe needs to donat this point. She measures the same as Tru-D at 600lbs and two inches shorter at 13.1hh. I'm hoping she makes it to 14.1, but we'll see. If Wendy can't get her shot records she'll get a second dose in three weeks and we may draw a blood panel at that time to see what has changed or not once the antibiotics are out of her system.

Dakota is back up close to 1100lbs. Not quite looking where I want her, but better than she was last year. Part of it might be work to get her muscling back up and who knows when that will happen...
