Breaking news for Lansing area snowboarders!

This December a terrain park is opening up at Hawk Island.

I'm still kind of piecing together what I can here. I found the blog of the County Commissioner for Ingham County (where Lansing is) and these are the posts relating to this snowboarding hill; Schor Report: Ingham County Commission Blog: Snowboarding Hill

What I've gleaned so far;

* Modern Skate and Surf pushed for this and is finding as many features to add at little to no cost to the county. Grind rails, fun boxes, flat rails, round rails, and "hips". Whatever that is.

* There will be beginner, intermediate, and advanced snow board runs.

* There will be some fees to use the hill but I don't know the pricing structure yet. Equipment rental will be available.

* There will be snow making quipment. (WHAT!!???

From the Hawk Island facebook page:

We have worked on the concept for 2 years and will be launching public information very soon. We are doing this just like the Ranney Skatepark which was our project that we launched in 1998. This is one of the first Urban Snowparks in the US and I am happy to get you guys more details. Zak Taylor, Verizon Wireless MGR is coordinating social networing including FB page. We have had to hold info because of a couple of unconfirmed details but that is being resolved right now. Big NEWS coming.

I have all the current information including who in the industry like Burton will be involved. That's right. Burton, Vans, Quiksilver all IN since talks began last winter. George, Modern Skate and Surf, and I have been working on the concept since Winter 2009 - contact me directly if you want to be involved.
