But I just had to share this gem from 9 Lies Republicans Tell About Women's Bodies:

The odds that a woman who is raped will get pregnant are "one in millions and millions and millions," said state Rep. Stephen Freind, R-Delaware County, the Legislature's leading abortion foe ( Read more... )

I know, right? And these are the morons who are telling women what they can do with their own bodies. If I weren't the peaceable sort, I'd firebomb something.

Oh, absolutely. So many believe it already; having legislators repeat it only spreads the ignorance.

Oh, that's definitely the plan. I've also read that in some schools run by evangelical denominations, this crap is taught in what passes for sex ed classes.

Never has the need for federal level SCIENCE BASED sex ed classes been more apparent. I live in a pretty liberal area of the country in a very good school district, and I'm currently in the middle of putting together a reproductive health course for my 12 year old, cause I don't trust these people to cover everything.

And that's fine, I can do it (the terminal embarassment of my daughter is just the icing on the cake for this one), but what about all the other kids? What about the BOYS!? (although I do get to do this again with my sons in few years, which will be all kinds of fun).

You don't educate these kids with actual facts and they grow up like....well most of the Republican asshats (I include the women who are clearly not strangling the men NEARLY ENOUGH). AARGH.

Sorry, you hit a hot button--you're really good at that!

Hey, this is a rant-friendly zone. Obviously. *g* I don't envy your task, but good on you for taking it on. And GAWD YES, SCIENCE BASED sex ed classes! I had those in the early 70s, what the hell happened? It's like these people grew up (and were presumably educated) in the 12th century.
