Life's kinda like a horse. Well, not so much a horse, but a horse ride. I was talking to Lauren, and her horse riding dreams ;-) and it just made sense. Well, not right away, i was in spinning and it clicked. These are the rules i gave her to "harness the steed."
1.Keep your heels down
2.Keep your hands relaxed
3.And sit up straight.
Man, and there are so many similarties...let me lay them out for you. When you first saddle up, you get this itchy, tingly feeling of a good song on the radio, or a heart pumping workout. The rearing to go feeling of 'man..let's get the hell outta dodge."
Then you climb on and get comfortable. You've gotta stay relaxed, otherwise, the horse is not going to be your friend, and it's going to be an awful time. You start slow, testing your reins, feeling the movement, bumping up the speed every now and then. Dipping your toes in the massive amount of power you have right in your control.
Once you're comfortable, you start testing your limits. Can you get the horse to run so fast you lose your breath? Can you jump that creek. Lord knows i should have broken my neck..but i didn't, because i always hung on like hell.
You get going so fast, you can't think..your heart's pounding, you've got this energy (for lack of a better word) just flowing through you. You look back, and the rock that you used to climb on is just a speck..if you can see it at all.
If the horse gets spooked by a loud noise, crazy animal or otherwise, when they jerk to the side..you've got to expect it, you've always got to expect that something is going to pop out..and if you don't, that ground's gonna fly up towards you a lot faster than you anticipated.
And nobody likes a sore ass.
Sometimes the damn animal does not want to go up the trail you want. And sometimes you've got to show it who's boss. Sometimes you've got to realize that the trail you were headed down was full of bee nests, and your horse is way smarter than you will ever be.
When your adrenenile has settled down, you've got to pull up, give yourself a breather. Give your best friend some water for pete's sake. It's alright if you laugh when your horse lays down in the river and almost squashes you..cause, really-you're fine.
When you get home, make sure you brush them down real well, and feed them, cause they worked hard to give you that moment within yourself. And they need thanks.
Yup..horses are just like life.
