I watch stuff

  • Doctor Who: the problem with writing this over time is that, y'know, things that air weekly will air weekly. First three episodes: very enjoyable! Fourth episode: oh my fucking god the bug squick, the bug squick, the bug squick, make it stop, why don't these things come with trigger warnings. So, um, this is your warning: not bug-phobia friendly, at all.

  • Moana: came out of it wondering about chickens. I mean, like, great movie and all, but now I'm wondering about chickens. (something that won't get finished: The Significance Of The Chicken, an arlo guthrie pastiche, from the POV of Maui.)

  • Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: the answer to the question posed by the title is "inside newt's suitcase". Otherwise, would not have been able to manage most of the dialogue without subtitles, don't think. Yay subtitles. (from something after I watched it, apparently I was not alone in having problems hearing the dialouge?)

  • Samantha Bee's Not The White House Correspondent's Dinner: they won me over immediately with CJ CREGG OMG CJ CREGG HI CJ HOW ARE YOU DOING CLAUDIA JEAN I HAVE MISSED YOU. Yes, we can tell, I am easy. :P Other than me being easy, and y'know, me tearing up at the "what if Sam Bee was hosting the actual correspondents dinner in a world where the person who won the popular vote ended up becoming president" bit, it was good, and I enjoyed.

  • Brooklyn 99: continues to be a bit uneven, especially in the "omg I am skipping most of this episode because Awkwardness" aspect, but I still enjoy it! It has some great stuff! (read: the parts of it that aren't too awkward for me to handle, but are probably also good for folks-without-awkward-issues)

  • The 1997 Cinderella tv movie: I watched this when it came out and again throughout the years, but not since then. But since it's blown up a bit on tumblr, I decided to track down the copy and rewatch. It's held up well! I wasn't blown away by any of the songs (although the "setting up for the ball" choreographed dance was very well done), but the humor bits are great, I don't think I appreciated the step-mother and the step-sisters as a kid but wow they are good. Excellent comedic stuff going on. (I admit to not having that high hopes on how it would hold up, since 90s tv movies were not known particularly known for quality)

Now to complete the cycle of Nostalgic TV Movies, probably I should dig up the Oliver Twist tv movie where Elijah Wood played the Artful Dodger. After I saw that one and fell in love with it, I decided to read the actual Oliver Twist, and was greatly disappointed.

Oh, and the Merlin with what's his name, the blond dude. Sam Neil? Something like that? But just really complete the "tv movies I loved in the 90s" trifecta.
And now posting this before yet another weekly tv show makes me need to rewrite something :P
