Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries
As I am always late to every party, I have now marathoned all of Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries. \o/
I was all set to say I LOVE EVERYONE IN THIS SHOW and also that, for once I SHIP THE CANON SHIPS (AND UNDERSTAND WHY THEY ARE MEANT TO BE IN LOVE, THAT USUALLY DOESN'T HAPPEN)... and then season 3 basically destroyed my love of Dorothy Williams/Hugh Collins. He is not good enough for her. He doesn't respect her or support her. HE WAS GETTING THERE, but oh man... can I blame the writers for inconsistent characterization? I did feel bad for Collins at times, but then he would, like, immediately then start shouting at Dot, and all the goodwill just vanishes. Dot deserves someone who appreciates her. At least Collins was nice to Dot in the last episode, and was generally not a dick, so that, at least, ended on a not-terrible note and if he keeps with the writers who don't make him a dick, maybe this relationship isn't a recipe for disaster. (As I was telling
kaesa, the only thing that would salvage this relationship is if Dot got to flog Collins's nice strong back whenever he's regressed to being a dick.)
At least the one thing season 3 did give me was someone actually talking about admissibility of evidence (and someone having a lawyer! For the first time!), because I have honestly been wondering how the resulting court cases go, and I refuse to allow myself to fall into the google hole of Australian criminal law from the 1920s.
(season 3 also was eight episodes long and two (1/4th) of them gave me unexpected!eye gore and extensive!arachnids. NOT MY FAVORITE SEASON, LET'S JUST SAY.)
ANYWAY, ALSO, I love all the costume porn, it is fantastic. I love everyone on this show except I sometimes want to slap Hugh Collins, but other than that, YES SUCH GOOD. I have, uh, realized that I basically ship Mac with all the ladies? I ship her with Phryne, and with Dot, and with Aunt Prudence, although those latter two just as a fling/experiment in sapphic pleasure. Also, I ship Phryne with Jack. I really want to see Jack slowly roll up his shirt sleeves. I have simple needs.
tl;dr DOT DESERVES EVERYTHING GOOD IN LIFE, and if Hugh Collins isn't going to shape up, she should dump his ass again. (and maybe give him a good flogging) (I did not think Collins was all that attractive, and then there was that episode with his shirt off and I suddenly understood the appeal.) (if I were a longficcer, I'd totally do the requisite 50K of Constable Strangelove: How Hugh Collins Learns To Stop Worrying And Love Women's Liberation)
Also also Jane is great. I hope she gets to go on adventures.
If I were someone who has finished a vid in the last decade a vidder... Cell Block Tango for everyone who had it coming, and also a song I can't remember which I was going for (Another One Bites The Dust?) for how they are flirting over dead bodies.
Anyway, now that I have watched the show, time for reading fic! Any recs?
