I have organized my ~1200 ao3 bookmarks. Organization is still somewhat ongoing, but I've done most of it.
Of my bookmarks, 24 are deleted fics. Two of them have bookmarking notes. One of the notes is a snippet of dialoge from the fic that, without having any names in it at all, makes it clear it is a One Direction futurefic. The other has a note saying "The one where Uther Pendragon is TRYING REALLY HARD to be a supportive dad of gay!Arthur." and the nature of Merlin is that I have no idea if that was a modern AU or not. :P
One fic was not deleted but it's not visible, and the more I think on this method, the more I think it's nifty. The fic shows as Mystery Work. It's in an unrevealed collection. The collection itself has a link to a twitter post by the author about taking the fics down. But I really like this way of doing it. Unlike orphaning, it allows the author full control of the fic. Unlike deleting, it preserves the possibility of the author changing their mind and making it available again at the same URL it had before. The one potential downside, to the author, that I can see from it is that it preserves the tags; I can see in my bookmarks what fandom, characters, pairings, and six of the freeform tags it has. So, unlike the other deleted works, I can get an idea of what this fic is.
But anyway, unlike the deleted ones, I can have hope of rereading this fic again some day, if the author decides to re-reveal it. And this is a pretty cool way of doing things. It lets someone take their fics down without taking their fics down.
