so there is this ~thing i am working on
for The Vampire Diaries. It's been in my head for a long time, months even, and if you scroll back ages on my LJ you'll find me complaining about how TVD fics are all of a similar vein? Well, if you didn't know about that post, I was pretty much saying that the characters were cemented and it's harder to write AUs. Like, something like Bandom was a free for all, because the people were real and you could throw them ino any circumstances and it would be pretty legit.
I'm not saying you ~can't do AUs, because there are some fabulous ones I've found, I'm just saying it gets a little tricky sometimes. Also, something else I've found with this Fandom, is that everyone wants an ~explanation. Which is totally legit, obviously. But like, because the series is so magical and mystical, there's always an explanation for how something strange or magical actually happens? Which makes an AU where something 'happens' and no one knows how to explain it a whole lot harder.
Also, characterization. As awesome as some AUs are, there are some with terrible characterization, and I might as well be reading an original story with the names Stefan, Elena, Damon and Katherine. That's something I hate, and it's one of the hardest things I find when writing an AU.
HOWEVER. I AM WRITING AN AU. And, taking all of the above into account, I'm hoping it comes out kind of okay. It's supposed to be around 10k - 20k, and at the moment it's at one of its harder stages. So... I'm writing something a little shorter which is well. AU. BECAUSE THE STORYLINE HAS KILLED MY OT3. FUCK YOU, SHOW. What I'm trying to say is that, after all of this is well. Yes. I'm writing things that are AU, and I am so totally nervous about them it is ridiculous.
Because like, the first one? The bigger one? It's SERIOUSLY AU. It is like, you know, AU to the max, and I don't know how this fandom will take that. It's not just like, ~they become human, or ~back in time it's like... ANYWAY. I'm not going to go too much into it, but I thought I'd let y'all know what was up ;)
