very big, very long discussion on why i ship my otp, and why i sometimes hate it.

This has been a long time coming. There's been so much hate and negativity in this fandom over this particular pairing (oh, you can only guess which pairing it is) and a lot of hate and negativity from these shippers in return. If you hadn't already guessed, I'm talking about Damon and Elena.

This is going to be a long post, and it's going to cover ( Read more... )

Finally a realist!

You have Damon so perfectly anaylsed and I tell you, you've just found a way to express all the deep seeded thoughts that I've been having. Whenever I talk to Delena shippers, you get the whole 'they belong together', 'love conquers all' yada, yada, yada speech and no one stops to analyse the relationship itself. So thank you for this touch of realism.

I personally think that Damon Salvatore is the most well written character that I've come across; there are just so many dimensions to him. What I read in fiction and from talking to other shippers is solely the romantic side or the arrogant side(which is sometimes combined as the same thing) of Damon, but we never get to see the dangerous side and the core of who Damon really is.

I love your theory of Damon's love for Elena; that is began as a curiousity of this woman that looked exactly like the woman that he loved and was fuelled by the jealousy he had of his brother and that Stefan got that relationship that he wanted. And also that she was the only one to show him any compassion. Now, I may need to turn in my Delena shipper badge for saying this, but I would love to see another person show him some compassion; some undeserved love. I doesn't have to be Bonnie, but I would like to see how he would react and what it ould mean for Damon and Elena's relationship. He had it for less than a split second with Rose. I just want to see who he is without Elena and without Katherine. Throughout the entire show his life has been about Katherine and then Elena, but what if he can love someone that is attainable?

My brother (who doesn't watch the show) asked me about the large Delena ship and he was commenting on how they weren't the main couple and usually the main couple is the ship that everyone jumps on and he was asking me if Delena was supposed to be the main ship. I remember telling him that 90% of people who watch the show are delusional and there are very few who are not. And it is interesting that, even though I'm a Delena shipper, I think the show would fall apart if we gave into those delusions. I don't know, what do you think; would the show work if Damon and Elena were together?

i won't lie, i used to be very much 'they are so perfect together, omfg!' but as i came to be more invested in the show and its characters, the reality hit me more of damon's character and the relationship he was coming to have with elena.

I personally think that Damon Salvatore is the most well written character that I've come across. i agree, full on. i think he's so fantastically layered and complex - he's a character that people can learn to love or hate, who they can get invested in or cast aside, bit either way he's a complex character with a storyline that can be built upon time and time again.

i felt like i was going against me ship while i wrote this, so i kind of know what you mean! i too, would like to see damon respond to someone who loves him without compulsion or any kind of second agenda - who wasn't killed off in three episodes. it feels to me like sometimes he's defined more by his relationships with katherine and elena than by his own hand.

i don't think the show would work now. that's not to say that in two seasons something comes about and damon and elena get together, i just think that right now it wouldn't be a working, functional relationship, and the show would be so focused on them it would lose any backing. that's something very interesting you've brought up there, as i've thought about it also.
