So, I went to the Inauguration today, and naturally I wanted to do a post about it. It's just that at this point, I know it would be a matter of tl;dr, and I find the task pretty daunting so....
Have some highlights with pictures!
Lizz and I got up somewhere around 4:45am after about an hour of sleep and got out of the house at five. We got to the metro, got on a train at what we thought was a decent time, and this was the view from Union Station.
We ended up stuck in this sea of people in a "line" that we couldn't get through anyway. This was the first place we were sent to that we weren't technically supposed to be at. Despite being told numerous times that we were. This happened a lot.
When we finally made it, this is where my head was turned during Obama's speech. I'm pretty sure I was grinning all happy!face at the sun.
A little after the speech. Those converse are mine, and they were a mistake. But at least I wasn't the only idiot there wearing converse shoes.
Her name is Marie. She gave me finger and toe warmers. She was really nice. We bonded over both being short people who a) weren't barrier (even though there was nothing to see) and b) were over the age of five. We were on Pennsylvania Ave., so nothing was happening until the parade started.
Cold and tired. At this point I could not feel my toes :)
Lizzface. She was shivering and her fingers were icicles. :(
More of the crowd.
Some dude in a tophat by the portable toilets.
This was the view for me and Lizz on the way out. There were still people trying to get in, as you can see, just to see the parade. We were too painfully cold to stay.
All in all we were really glad we went. It was good to be there. Good to be smiling with people like we'd all gotten the same secret code on the back of the serial box and were happy that we all won.
♥
Now I'm home and warm and making friends with my electric blanket.
