just a quick update since i'm trying to keep stat from eating my soul:
i quit ffpir/pennenvironment almost two weeks ago... most commonly cited reason is i became jaded and lost faith in the group. it also didn't help that i got fed up with the directors for how unprofessionally they ran the office, not to mention how i still felt like a pawn even though we were supposed to be activists
point is, my parents came down that weekend, and when i told my mom she got freaked out and immediately phoned her only pgh friend and told her to take care of me. end result is that i'm about to start work at the hillman cancer center (up on center ave across the street from upmc shadyside)... but so far the guy i'm working under is just having me research on my own until my paperwork clears (did i mention i had to write a resume from memory in < 30min?)
right now i'm teaching myself stat and harmonic analysis (think 3xx-4xx level math courses), as my job will have me have me computing probability densities using wavelets. if all goes well, my project will allow for early cancer prediction based on a statistical analysis of an array of blood tests.
unfortunately for me, i'm still kind of broken as i'm trying to grok at least two courses worth of higher end math in about a week
oh, and zachary contacted me, looks like he's about to publish an article on the microtomography work i did last summer with him, and i'm slated to be second author on it... w00t
