Well I have been back in Canada for a little over 12 hours. I gotta say that I really miss the lush beauty of Mexico. Everything was so green lush and humid- here it's rainy grey cold and a little bleak. It is taking me some time to adjust to being home- my head is just not grounded yet. I went horseback riding in the mountains while I was there- what an experience that was! Through rocky paths, across deep rivers through little mountain villages. As beautiful as it was though, I felt a little guilty touring these places with little shanty town shacks. These people were so poor yet they still smiled and waved as we rode through. It was difficult- I wanted to stop and give them money but then you risk hurting their pride. I found myself humbled by the whole experience to be honest.
I didn't feel a drop of rain for 7 days and the temperature was well into the 80's- I swam I walked the beach- OH! One day on the beach there was a crowd of people looking out into the ocean, I thought maybe there was a shark or a dolphin but as we walked through the crowd, a man started yelling at Alison- she jumped and there at her feet was a tiny little sea turtle- she almost stepped on him. They had just hatched and (as you see on those underwater adventure shows) were making their way to the water. The poor little guy was half the size of my palm and his little flippers were working really hard along the beach. The bay that we were in has a serious dolphin population and since sharks are afraid of dolphins, they guy was saying that the little turtle had a good chance of surviving. It really was something to see. The trip was all around amazing and I will never ever forget it. What a beautiful place. I can highly recommend Puerto Vallarta to anyone who wants to travel to Mexico.
There were guys on the beach balancing these huge rocks on top of one another so there were these huge rock towers that seemed to be somehow suspended on top of one another- they guy wasn't huge but he was lifting these giant rocks and maneuvering them so delicateley- it was fascinating. Then high tide would come along and knock them all down- he would start the next day again.
I bought a ton of silver from the beach vendors- I got a new collar, a new turquoise pendant, a red coral pendant a turquoise bracelet, another pendant for a gift and it was all under $100- kinda crazy really. I bought some shell necklaces and bracelets. In old Vallarta, I picked up a glass jug with chili peppers on it for Sangria, some glasses with a red rim and green shot glasses- anyone who has been to Mexico knows what kind of glass ware I am talking about- its the really thick stuff and it is usually blue. I got it all for $22. Getting it home was interesting. My back pack was full and really heavy.
OH! another step out of the box moment- I bought a black cowboy hat. It kinda looks like the one the guy from ministry wears but it isn't leather. I loved the way it looked so I picked it up! Don't know if I will wear it here or not but I still love it! Anyway, I think that I really should at the very least catch up on some laundry and make an attempt to get life back to normal. Reality really sucks and I would have loved 2 weeks there but the 7 days gave me the fix of sun and warmth that I needed. Hasta Luego!
