SO! I have decided to give a friend of mine a hand out at his restaurant. Granted, it's not exactly fine dining but it kills time and he is willing to pay me what I asked for. The restaurant is located fairly rurally- ok it is in redneck central. It's kind of a pub but he does do some great dishes and the presentation is quite nice so I can tollerate it for awhile.
Yesterday I was on my way out to work and just as I am pulling up to a set of lights headed into town..........I see a radar trap. Now in all fairness, I knew that the speed limit lowered (80-km/hr - 50km/hr) somewhere close to the lights and when I saw him, I was gearing down- apparently not soon enough- he pulled out, inched up really really close behind me (to run my plate no doubt) and I was shaking. I really don't care for police officers, from past experience, they're never around when you need one but always around when you don't. Anyway, on went the lights so I pulled over and reached for my license insurance and ownership. Of course he asked if I knew how fast I was going - I honestly didn't so I said so. He then informed me that I was doing 95 in a 50. I think the colour drained from my face- dollar signs flashed in my mind as demeret points vanished. He asked me where I was headed so I told him I was going to work hoping that being a responsible working part of society would help my case in some way. Well, as soon as I mentioned where I worked he started to smile and I wasn't sure if it was a "ha! I hate the people that work there" or "hey I like that place" kind of smile so I just kept my mouth shut for a second and brethlessly awaited his reaction. He handed my licence back to me and said " I go there all the time- just slow down and have a great night- oh remember me the next time I am in." I exhaled and told him his next pint was on me. I took a few breaths, counted my blessings and continued on my way to work. To be truthful, it was the only good experience I have ever had with an officer of the law. I continued on my way and when I got to work, I gave my friend (the owner) a big fat kiss on the cheek and thanked him. I told him my story and he laughed- apparently almost every one in the place had gotten out of tickets because of the restaurant. Whatever! I am just glad I was one of them.
So needless to say, on my way home, I rigidly held the legal speed limit and I checked to see exactly were the signs changed. I was totally in the wrong as the sign was visible about 300 meters prior to where I had been pinched. That could have been a $300.00 fine and 3 points. Thank god the police in that area like their beer!
