Notes: Oh shit, I wrote fic! If you have any interest at all in mindfuck horror (and honestly, even if you don't :P), go play the game (or go watch someone else do it) before you read this. If you don't, by all means read. This is based on a version of the game's final scene, so it will/might spoil everything.
Summary: Alexander waits. But it is too late now, and there is no more time to explain, now that the portal is almost open.
Alexander waits.
There is nothing else to do, while the charges build up slowly, so slowly, already almost too slow. (As the distance grows, and the orbs’ power wanes. In time the remaining ones will be harmless relics, unlucky at worst.)
Alexander waits, alone with the silent fire and the crackling energies.
*
Daniel is no surprise. Alexander truly regrets he refused, in the end. Daniel could have overcome his humanity. Alexander cannot fault him he chose it instead. Perhaps, if he had known….
But it is too late now, and there is no more time to explain, now that the portal is almost open.
*
The portal opens.
Home awaits, and it is beautiful, true, real and inviting.
It is time.
*
Alexander dissolves, but thinks-on the other side, in the proper world-thank you, my friend, and your sacrifice won’t be forgotten, and above all, I wish you could see it.
End Note: (and ETA) I feel it is important to mention that Alexander is the game's main antaganist, and while Daniel is the main character, he can't really be called a 'good guy' either. Both of them are tortures and murderers, and Daniel's attempt to redeem himself is basically more murder. So yeah….
